Sony Xperia Z2 Rapid Review

The Sony Xperia Z2 is a brilliant example of how a new model of a popular phone can add a lot more. One of the first things that is immediately noticeable when you fist pick up the phone is how light it is. While the phone is around 30 g heavier than the previous Sony Xperia Z1 Compact, it still holds up quite well and fits nicely in to the palm of your hand. It is also just small enough to be comfortable to use with one hand, although smaller handed people may have a little bit of trouble. The touch screen is responsive and smooth, with no visible lag or judder when swiping through pages of apps. It also has a multi-touch feature of up to 10 fingers!

As it is a Sony phone, it does come with a couple of Sony branded apps, pre-installed onto the phone like the Walkman music application or the Sony update centre. They work fairly well and do not disrupt your experience, but I prefer to use other music apps downloaded from the Google Play store. It also comes with the usual fantastic Sony quality, with shatter proof and scratch resistant glass and is a IP58 certified dust and water resistant over 1 meter and 30 minutes. Be sure to close up all of the flaps on the phone though, as this can cause water to get through. It has 16GB of memory and has 3GB of RAM, which is quite the beauty in terms of playing high quality apps.

One of the defining features of the Sony Xperia Z2 is it's camera. It is a 20.7 MP camera with 5248 х 3936 pixels, autofocus and LED Flash. Unlike the Sony Xperia Z1 and Z1 Compact, the Z2 features 4K video recording, which looks brilliant but takes up a fair bit of space on the 16GB memory. The photo's also look as clear and colourful as ever, with the 20.7 MP camera really going into play. However, the 20.7 MP option on the phone cuts out some of the photo at the bottom, making it smaller, but the new exclusive 15 MP option in the camera settings fixes this issue entirely. The camera app also has a multitude of options like the time burst mode which takes multiple photos at once and the create photo filter modes.

The Sony Xperia Z2 Flagship is most definitely a good upgrade from the Xperia Z1 and Z1 Compact, but is it enough? I believe it is, with some brand new features such as 4K video recording, the 15MP camera option and the 3GB's of RAM which make this phone one of the more powerful ones out there. It will also last you a while with it's shatter proof glass and dust/water resistant design.
