Beach House is an American dream pop duo made up of keyboardist and vocalist Victoria Legrand, and guitarist/backup vocalist Alex Scally. Beach House was one of my most anticipated shows of the 2019 Fringe, as I have been a fan of them for the past few years, and it has always been a dream to see them live! I must say, my expectations were exceeded as the show that they put on was pretty magical.
The show began with the song Levitation, with the synths and organs fading in, and Legrand's soft and beckoning vocals caressed the audience. The lighting on the stage was a definite highlight, as each song had distinctive lights and colors that were a delight to look at. I definitely felt as if I was in some kind of psychedelic dreamland, and the rest of the audience looked as if they shared that opinion. The mood was mysterious and romantic, and occasionally both Legrand and Scally would talk to the crowd inbetween songs.
Beach House played for about an hour and a half, including the encore where they performed one last song. Their live set was mostly made up of songs from their latest album 7, as well as some tracks from Depression Cherry. It's a shame that they didn't delve more into their discography, but the songs that they performed were still excellent. It was a very fun night, and if you ever get the chance to see Beach House live, I would very much recommend it for Legrand and Scally's powerful performances/stage presence, as well as their impressive lighting and set design.
