GLOW was an intriguing concert experience, where students from Tabor Music school performed in the dark, whilst wearing glow in the dark clothes and props. What at first sounded like a gimmicky idea, it was most definitely unique and the whole band looked memorizing, and throughout the performance they changed their props/clothing, as well as changing the set around them. They performed music from popular funk artists such as Michael Jackson (quite a controversial choice considering the recent media controversies), Stevie Wonder, James Brown and Aretha Franklin.
The music was jazzy and funky, and the group of about 5 singers did an excellent job of adding an extra layer of soul to the performance. They must have spent a lot of time rehearsing everything, because there were so many different layers to the show. The performers would have different props for every song, for instance holding up signs saying Do Re Mi throughout their performance of ABC. They also changed into glow in the dark fedoras, sunglasses and other hats and coats.
GLOW was my last fringe show for the year, and it was a fun closer to the 2019 Fringe. I'll be keeping my eye out for future performances by the Tabor Music school, and I'd recommend that you check them out for your daily dose of funk!
