ORBITAL + SEVERED HEADS Review

Orbital and Servered Heads concert was one of my most anticipated events for 2019's Fringe, and I'm glad to say that it exceeded my expectations. Severed Heads are an Australian electronic music group that began in 1979, and these days has two members, Tom Ellard and Steward Lawler. Their music was pushing boundaries back then, and it continues to do so today. Orbital was the second group performing, made up of Phil and Paul Hartnoll and they are an English EDM duo that became famous for their pioneering jump into the rave scene in the late 80s.

First up was Severed Heads, and whilst their setup was pretty basic, the visuals that they had on the screen next to them were out of this world! Each song had a different video to go along with it, and it was a crazy mix of psychedelia and chopped up clips and advertisements. They delved into their catalog, playing songs from the 80s as well as some of their newer tracks, and Tom talked to the audience throughout, making jokes and just having a good time!

The real stars of the show however were Orbital, and their setup was just amazing! Paul and Phil put on an excellent show, and played a varied set with many surprises. Some of the highlights of the show included the song Satan, intercut with footage of the catholic church and conviction of George Pell, as well as Orbital's reinterpretation of the Doctor Who theme.

Overall, the show was a lot of fun, and both Severed Heads and Orbital put on a show that I definitely wont forget!
